HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

Charanchi Local Government Education Authority came into existence in Jenuary 1997. it was administratve Staff Malam Sabo Muhammad Maikudi appointed as the acting Education Secretary of the LGEA.

The LGEA consist of two district areas namely; Charanchi with Nine Village areas and Kuraye Distrct with eight village arear.

Charanchi LGEA is boarded by Rimi LGEA from North, from the Southern part it is Boarded by Kankia and Matazu LGEAs, from the Western part by Dutsin-ma and Kurfi LGEAs and from the East by Bindawa LGEA. Presently, the LGEA has 56 Primary Schools in which three are Model while two are Nomaidic primary Schools and one pilot primary Schools. It also has three ECCD classes attached to Charanchi Model Primary School, Kuraye Model Primary School, Kuraye Model and Radda Model Primary Schools.

 

NUMBER OF SCHOOLS : The LGEA has 56 Primary Schools spread across the Local Government.

 

NUMBER OF CLASSROOMS ACCOMMODATION : The LGEA has 157 classrooms and two storey building Charamchi Model with 34 classrooms and Radda Model Primary School with 56 classroom accommodation totaling in all to 227 classrooms accommodation.

 

OFFICE ACCOMMODATION : The LGEA is presently leaving in a rented storey building as its temporary secretariat with only 12 rooms and two stores.

Toilet facilities :- Out of 56 primary schools is in the LGEA, there are 177 pit toilet lateries available that is 42 blocks of 4 cubical pit toilet in the 29 Primary Schools while 27 Primary Schools are locking toilets.

 

ENROLMENT: The current enrolment of LGEA is 36,444 that is 25,876 boys and 10,568 girls as at 2006/2008 with 403 streams.

 

TEACHING AND NON-TEACHING STAFF : The present number of teaching and non-teaching staff in the LGEA are 643 in which 519 are teaching staff while 124 are non teaching staff which include watchman in the Primary schools and administrative staff of the LGEA.

 

7. OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENTS: The Local Government has been assisting the LGEA various ways as from 1999-2007. between 1999-2007 during the tenure of Nonourable Abdulrazak Almustapha Banye, the administration purchased and supplied exercise books and Islamic Education text books. It also recruited 142 teaching and non-teaching staff. In addition, it also paid compensation for land for the construction of Yunusa School and Charanchi Pilot Primary Schools.

During his Tenure in office, he rendered a lot of financial assistance to LGEA especially during state commin Entrance Examinations and interviews as well as other examinations. His administration also purchased forms as well pay registration fees for our unqualified teachers to enable them pass their papers.

Similarly, during Charanchi/Kuraye Local Government Council in 2003/2004 Local Government repaired and rehabilitated almost all of our dilapidated Primary School in Charanchi were fully repaired and rehabilitated which helped in providing conducive atmosphere for teaching and learning.

In 2005/2006 Charanchi Local Government constructed 4 number blocks classrooms, office and store at Dangag, Kunatau, Garazawa and Baranragizo Primary Schools which were under shades and later constructed additional 2 Classrooms at Bajinawa, Dangayya, Yanunku and Dafara Primary Schools. The Local Government converted Radda Model in to a storey building.

The traditional rulers of charanchi and Kuraye, village heads and ward/hamlets head are always willing to assist the local Government and local Education Authority in terms of enlightment of their teacher’s subject especially in enrolment drive. They also pay regular visit to schools and assist teachers posted to their areas by providing them with free accommodation eg Ganuwa. Apart from these, they assist in the general mobilization of their subjects in self help projects. It is important to note that so many self – help projects in collaboration with World Bank/UBEC were successful executive within the period under review in the Local Government.

It is gratifying to note for example that from 1999 to 2007, the community, PTA and World Bank/UBE intervention funds constructed 5 blocks of 2 classrooms, office and store at Wajje, Dafara, Gamda, Zan and Jewa Primary Schools. Also constructed 8 blocks of 5 cubical pit latrines at Ganuwa Kuraye Primary Schools in addition to construction of Model, Charanchi Model, Kuraye Model Primary Schools. There is also rehabilitation and self help project.

The UNICEF provided one motorcycle and the World Bank provided motocycle to the LGEA all for the sake of supervision and monitoring through the state universal basic education board.

8. UBEP/WORLD BANK:- They assisted the LGEA immensely through the self-help projects as enumerated above.

 

9. AWARD RECEIVED BY LGEA:- The LGEA has won many prizes in Qur’anic recitation Quiz and debate competitions held in Katsina.

 

 

10. CONTRIBUTION OF COMMUNITIES:

a. Construction of pupils’ furniture at Ganuwa Primary School by Ganuwa Development Association.

b. Donation of land to charanchi LGEA to construct charanchi Aneex by Alhaji Yahaya Galadaima.

c. Construction of one number block of two classrooms at charanchi Annex by Charanchi Solidarity forum.

d. Provision of borehole at charanchi pilot by RUWASSA.

e. Provision of I number block of two classrooms’, office and store at Banye Primary School by former Honorable commissioner of Works, Housing and Transport Engr.
